INITIAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  1. The applicant agency is a non-profit tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or sponsored by such an organization
  2. The grant request is for a program/project that is compatible with the Sisters of St. Joseph Health and Wellness Foundation’s mission, vision and current focus areas for funding:
    • WV School-Based Health Initiative
    • Child Abuse Prevention
    • In-Home Parent Training and Education Programs
    • Children and Families

Prospective applicants who meet these initial criteria and wish to apply for a grant are required to first submit a Letter of Inquiry to the Foundation briefly describing their project. FUNDING CYCLES

The Sisters of St. Joseph Health and Wellness Foundation has two yearly grant funding cycles. Grants are awarded each fiscal year during the Spring and Fall Board of Directors meetings.

DEADLINES

DEADLINES FOR SUBMISSION OF LETTERS OF INQUIRY ARE:

  1. JUNE 15 FOR THE FALL CYCLE
  2. DECEMBER 15 FOR THE SPRING CYCLE

DEADLINES FOR SUBMISSION OF GRANT APPLICATIONS ARE:

  1. AUGUST 15 FOR THE FALL CYCLE
  2. FEBRUARY 15 FOR THE SPRING CYCLE

THE GRANT PROCESS INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING STEPS:

  1. Potential grant applicant submits a Letter of Inquiry by the posted deadline.
  2. SSJHWF staff reviews the Letter of Inquiry and determines if the proposed project qualifies for funding within the current focus areas of funding.
  3. SSJHWF staff notifies the applicant of their decision. If the proposed project meets funding criteria, the applicant is invited to submit a full grant proposal. Applicants whose projects do not qualify for funding are notified that the Foundation cannot accept a full proposal and are given the rationale for that decision.

  6. SSJHWF staff schedules meetings with the SSJHWF Grant Review Committee and any other consultative individual or group to review each submitted grant. SSJHWF staff may make further requests at this time for the grantee to supply any additional information requested by those reviewing the grant proposals. After all additional information has been reviewed the Grant Review Committee finalizes its list of grants for submission to the Board of Directors for their consideration.
  7. The SSJHWF Grant Review Committee presents this final list of grant proposals to the Board of Directors for action (approval, partial approval, rejection) during the regularly scheduled meetings in late October or April.
  8. All prospective grantees are notified of the Board’s decisions within a reasonable period of time after the Board meeting.
